Early life background and education

Coming from an enlightened intellectual group of families, Narendranath Datta, popularly known as Narendra Nath Dutt, or Swami Vivekanand, was born on January 12th,1863, at Kolkata. Mother and father background He was the son of his great father, the wealthy practicing advocate with an open heart and broadened views that were quite revolutionary in thought, Vishwanath Datta and pious orthodox mother Bhuvaneshwari Devi that always kept him piously abreast both rational reasons and spirituality.

Education and Intellectual Pursuits:-

 He was an outstanding student of the Metropolitan Institution, Kolkata, and afterward he studied in Scottish Church College in Kolkata. He was brilliant in philosophy, religion, history, and literature.

Search for Spiritual Enlightenment

Search for a Guru:-

 In search of a guru, he met Ramakrishna Paramahansa in the year 1881 when he was 18 years old. It is said that this changed his life.

Impact of Ramakrishna:-

 Ramakrishna led him to understand Advaita Vedanta and the fact that all religions were the same. He made Ramakrishna his Guru, who gave him an idea of his mission in life.

Renunciation and Spiritual Training:-

 After the death of Ramakrishna in 1886, Vivekananda and the other disciples renounced worldly bondage and turned to spiritual pursuits. This further bonded them as a group of Ramakrishna’s spiritual successors

Institution of Ramakrishna Mission

In the year 1897, through the motivation of enlightening the society spiritually and rendering the service to humanity, the Vivekananda formed a spiritual and humanitarian mission of the Ramakrishna mission.

The basic objects with which the organisation included in the principles of the religion, harmony and humanitarian in the education and medicine for providing relief of service because of the disaster service.

Headquarters and Heritage:-

 Ramakrishna Mission headquarters is located in Belur Math near Kolkata and it is still in action globally, helping everybody irrespective of religion and race.

Journey Westwards

The Parliament of World Religions:-

 In 1893, Vivekananda was invited to attend the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago. On his request to represent Hindus for this parliament, Vivekananda took up this invitation and participated in it. When, in the opening address that started with “Sisters and Brothers of America,” he was showered with thunders of standing ovations by all the audience in the gathering.

Universal Message of Brotherhood:-

 He taught the message of tolerance in religions, that all roads lead to one path, of the divine. As he lectured at Chicago, he very much became a significant ambassador to the west for Hindu religion.

Vivekananda and West:-

 This enlightened the Western mind in ways that made them take in the message of Indian spiritualism seriously. Ideas against the common western mind thinking about Hinduism-the western mind has a wrong perspective about the depth it portrays in philosophical thought; these ideas he brought, where meditation and yoga which they practice to this very day.

He adopted Advaita Vedanta. This is the non-dualistic understanding of philosophy of Vedanta. Under this, it believes for unity of soul and final reality.

Universal Toleration and Religious Pluralism:-

 According to Swami Vivekananda, all the religions are authentic in equal amount and each will attain towards one truth. So this slogan he kept that everybody will respect other in their particular religions and sects.

Service to Mankind:-

 He stated that service unto others is the worship itself. “Service to man is service to God” became one of his notable sayings.

Self-confidence and Power:-

 Swami Vivekananda emphasized self confidence, bravery, and the strength. In his saying, he refers to the fact that they are necessary to bring a change in society as well as in individuals.

Youth Empowerment:-

 Vivekananda was a great believer in youth empowerment and motivated the youth to seek greatness, while their role came in making a better society.

 Nationalism and Patriotism

According to him, Indian Vision- His love for his motherland and the vision of a great and united India made him feel that nobody was better than him and could inspire him to the cause of national progress, according to him. It was the spiritual and cultural awakening that would usher in social upliftment.

Influence on Indian Independence Movement:-

 Self reliance, cultural heritage, and self-respect later motivated Indian freedom fighters Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Jawaharlal Nehru.

Education and Empowerment:-

According to him, education must mould character, increase strength and build stamina. It is a destroyer of evil and a builder of the classes.

Health Problems and Last Days

Physical Illness:-

 Swami Vivekananda, towards the end of his life, was suffering from several health ailments like asthma, diabetes, and heart diseases. He was over-exerting himself, traveling extensively, which was proving to be a burden to his body.

Death and Legacy:-

 Swami Vivekananda died on July 4, 1902 at the tender age of 39 in Belur Math. It was the final end of a short, but powerful life.

 Today, he is an icon for India’s highest spiritual leadership, and people all over the world read his message.
